Organisation profile: International Women’s Group is a group with over 122  members of women from around 23 countries. We provide advocacy, counselling, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), activities and trips, IT training and workshops and drop in and sewing/knitting to ladies at our premises.

Internship overview

This internship is designed to help a trainee develop the skills and confidence needed to lead and organise a women’s language café. The café provides a safe and welcoming space for participants to practise their English language skills. The intern will also support the project through administrative tasks and social media engagement. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.

The role includes developing skills in administration, social media, and facilitating English language learning using digital tools. For example, discussions may be supported by Google images or other online resources based on the prearranged topic of the week.

 

Main Duties and Tasks

The intern will be responsible for:

– Organising and scheduling weekly posts on platforms such as Telegram or Facebook

– Taking and uploading event photos to social media

– Keeping attendance and work records

– Providing administrative support to the project

– Sharing regular feedback as required

 

The intern will receive in-work support, guidance, and training to develop the necessary skills for the role. We are committed to making any reasonable adjustments and aim to provide a supportive, inclusive environment where the intern can grow and reach their full potential.

To enable the intern to perform confidently and effectively in their role, the following training will be provided:

– Introduction to first aid

– Online health and safety modules

– Hosting of the community café

– Preparing and using discussion topics for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners

– Handling and setting up of basic IT equipment such as laptops

– Working effectively under supervision of International Women’s Group staff members

– Carrying out administrative tasks, including form-filling and data entry

– Social media training, including use of Facebook, Telegram, internet browsing, and email

 

Person Specification

Essential skills and experience:

– A warm and welcoming approach when working with others

– Basic experience of using Microsoft office or equivalent tools, with assistive technology if applicable and willingness to learn IT skills.

– Sensitivity and respect with the ability to support our work and ensure that individuals are treated with dignity, understanding and consideration for their unique needs and perspectives.

– Interest in working with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds

– Clear verbal and written communication skills, with support or adjustments where needed

– Willingness to take part in ongoing training and development

– Reliable, honest, patient and respectful in your approach

– Have a clear need for the opportunity, and be able to show how it will help you overcome barriers to achieving your career goals. (This is assessed in the sections motivation for applying, skills development, and current employment status.)

– Must define as Deaf or disabled which includes physical, sensory and mental impairments, neurodivergent, learning disabilities, learning difficulties such as dyslexia or long term health conditions. (You do not need to give details in the supporting statement unless you wish to. If you do, this will not be removed from the application before the shortlisting panel sees it.)

 

Additional Information

This contract is for 420 hours, equivalent of 40 weeks at 10 hours per week.
