Frequently Asked Questions during Covid-19

By Lynne Wham | Internships, News, We Can Work News | Comments are Closed | 7 April, 2020 | 0

We’re continuing to support our interns and deliver our We Can Work internships during Covid-19. We know it is an uncertain time for everyone and you may be unsure about applying to one of our internships. Below are some frequently asked questions that we hope will help you decide if you want to apply to one of our internships. If you have any questions not answered here then please get in touch by emailing interns@inclusionscotland.org or call 0131 370 6700 and leave a message with your contact details. We will get back to you.

Q: Will I have to come to an interview in person?

A: No, we always offer remote interviews to all candidates as a alternative method for our internship opportunities. However, during this period of social distancing we are investigating the possibility and accessibility of full panel remote interviews by telephone and video conferences through platforms like Skype and Zoom. You will receive more information on this if invited to interview.

Q: If I have applied for an opportunity will the recruitment time stated on the job advert still apply?

A: Currently during social distancing we have had to postpone the recruitment for some of our internships. If you have submitted an application, you should have received an email from us with an update. If you have not heard from us please get in touch at interns@inclusionscotland.org or call 0131 370 6700 and one of the team will get back to you.

Q: Can I still receive application support if I wish it?

A: Yes absolutely, all of our application support usually takes place over the phone or via instant messaging through our social media depending on the applicants communication preference. If there are other ways of offering you support with your application that are more accessible to you, please let us know. However, please note that during social distancing we are unable to meet any candidate in person. If you require any support please do get in touch with us via interns@inclusionscotland.org or call 0131 370 6700.

Q: Will I still receive mock interview support during this time?

A: Yes, if you are shortlisted for an interview with our internships programme, mock interview support will take place via video conferencing, telephone or instant messaging e.g. What’s App, facebook messenger or by direct message on twitter. Please let us know if there are other ways of offering you support with your interview that are more accessible to you. However, please note that during social distancing we are unable to meet any candidate in person.

Q: Am I wasting my time applying for current vacancies during this time of uncertainty?

A: No, we are working closely with our employers and they are regularly updating us on developments. The internships advertised on our website will go ahead but may be subject to a delay in recruitment and start date. We are keeping candidates fully informed throughout this situation.

Q:  I don’t have much work experience or the right qualification but would like to apply for a position, should I?

A: You can get in-touch with the internships team about your suitability for any internship we have advertised, via e-email, social media or calling 0131 370 6700. All applicants will receive constructive feedback and guidance on how to improve their applications before, during and after the application deadline, giving you plenty of structured learning and feedback to improve you current and future application. Feedback from our applicants suggests that even when they are not successful with our internships they have learned from the process of applying, which has helped them be successful for other opportunities. The support we give to your application helps you to develop your skills and increases your chance of success in the future.

Q: Will I have to work from home during my internship and if so, will there be any support with this?

A: Usually we would work with the employer to look at the genuine requirements for the job and the reasonable adjustment requests to provide the most suitable arrangements and environment for you to do your role. It would be very likely that you would work from home during the current COVID-19  lockdown in Scotland but for some internships this may not be possible, if this was the case we would work with you and the employer to make suitable arrangements. If you have any specific concerns about this please get in touch with the Internships Team directly and someone will get back to you.
