I practiced as a GP in Edinburgh for more than 3 decades. During this time, I had more than my fare share of caring for disabled people. I came to know the barriers and difficulties disabled people experience not only accessing healthcare but also in every other aspect of their life.. I learnt about the ‘Social model of disability as opposed to medical model’ which is not normally taught in medical schools. On many occasions, I did my best to help disabled people often at my own expense.. After retiring I had the time to do something which aligned with my value of independent living and rights of people with disabilities. Joining Inclusion Scotland gave me the opportunity to follow my mission of supporting the right of disabled people to live independently and take control of their own lives.
