Accountable to: Co-director of Zero Tolerance.
Contract: 420 hours, working from 7.5 to 14 hours per week
Location: This role will be predominantly home working, with the potential for occasional travel to Edinburgh depending on Scottish Government COVID restrictions. Zero tolerance’s offices are located at 1 Papermill Wynd, Edinburgh, EH7 4QL.
Zero Tolerance is a Scottish charity working to end men’s violence against women by promoting gender equality and challenging attitudes that normalise violence and abuse. We work to end violence against women through tackling the root cause of this violence – gender inequality.
- Feminism: a feminist approach underpins all of our work, our relations with others and with each other. We always challenge men’s behaviour and shine the spotlight on over-arching systems of power and privilege that subordinate women and entitle men.
- Leadership: we identify and challenge new and under-reported forms of violence against women, as well as those more widely accepted and tolerated.

- To support Zero Tolerance’s staff team through a range of administrative and project-based tasks. This could be supporting our Policy and Research Officer by summarising research, or our Communications Officer by writing tweets.
- The intern will undertake activities to support staff projects and programmes. This will involve both being assigned work as well as proactively seeking opportunities to support colleagues across the organisation.
Main duties and task
- Takes minutes at staff meetings and external research groups, types up and distributes to all participants.
- Drafts and schedules social media posts to provide updates on project and campaign work.
- Draft blogs posts and updates Zero Tolerance’s (ZT’s) webpage to reflect current issues.
- Updates resource library on website and creates signposts to other organisations and resources.
- Proof-reads research documents and web copy
- Provides event and training administration support, sending invitations and coordinating responses, maintaining attendance lists, and conducting post-event evaluation.
- Dealing with general enquiries and directing them to the appropriate staff member.
- Provides general administrative support to colleagues as and when required e.g. electronic filing, database management
- Works on personal project to further knowledge and experience, seeking guidance when necessary.
Essential skills and experience:
- Good general level of education or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of violence against women and gender equality.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt approach depending on the needs of the audience.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Skilled user of Information Technology with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work to deadlines and work flexibly in response to changing priorities.
- Ability to quickly absorb and understand information.
- Confident approach to own learning and continuous improvement of own work within the internship.
- Actively demonstrates the values, aims and ethos of Zero Tolerance.
- Have a clear need for the opportunity, and be able to show how it will help you overcome barriers to achieving your career goals. (this is assessed in the sections motivation for applying, skills development, and current employment status.)
- Must define as Deaf or disabled which includes physical, sensory and mental impairments, autistic spectrum, learning disabilities, learning difficulties such as dyslexia or long term health conditions. - Experience of proactively supporting a range of different roles within a team.
- Previous experience of event organisation and administration.
- Proficiency in using social media and updating webpages.
