One in Five Campaign anniversary event – with Access to Politics

By Phyl Meyer | Access to Politics, News, Policy and Parliament | Comments are Closed | 9 February, 2016 | 1

The One in Five Campaign has organised a photocall outside the Scottish Parliament for Sat 20th Feb at 14:30 to celebrate their first anniversary.

The aim is to remind all political parties of their commitment to break down the barriers facing disabled people in politics. Members of all political parties, and none, are welcome to show their support in a massive group photo

    Founder Jamie Symkowiak:

“Ahead of this year’s Scottish elections, we hope to remind the Parties of their commitment to the One in Five Charter which aims to break down the barriers disabled people face when accessing politics.

We want our Parliaments to look more like the people they represent. That’s why we’re putting disabled people front and centre of this election!”

Inclusion Scotland’s Access to Politics project is working to help parties (and other political organisations) learn how to live up to their equality obligations towards disabled people and we’d love to see strong support to keep up the pressure. If you are interested in getting more politically active check out our Access to Politics project page, and get in touch! We will be jointly participating in this event and will be speaking about our project and the support we hope to be able to offer in future.

Travel expenses covered for disabled participants

The Access to Politics project is also offering help with transport costs and access assistance to help disabled people to attend the event. If the cost or arrangements of travel would be a barrier to you joining us please e-mail accesspolitics@inclusionscotland.org – reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed after the event, just ask for a claim form and wherever possible keep a receipt for your tickets, etc.

For questions or RSVPs relating to the photocall, you can reach Jamie at jamie.szymkowiak@gmail.com
