Internship overview
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates to support our projects. we are developing around working with older people in Glasgow in the build-up and during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Sporting Memories is planning to work with schools, BAME older peoples’ groups and LGBTQ+ groups to help gather and celebrate their sporting memories as part of the Glasgow 2026 Games legacy.
Within your role you will be helping other members of the Sporting Memories staff and volunteer teams with these projects with various administrative and communication tasks, as well as, having an opportunity to talk and meet with members of these groups either online or potentially in person at specific ‘events’ connected with the Glasgow 2026.
Main duties and tasks
– Supporting Sporting Memories staff and volunteers in the organisation of various Glasgow 2027 sports-themed activities and events.
– Supporting our communications team in advertising activities and event opportunities and liaising between Sporting Memories and partner organisations.
– Opportunity to attend and participate in either online or in-person events or both, and support staff and team volunteers in our delivery of such activities and events.
– Duties may include the following: Scheduling, managing event registrations, updating databases, drafting social media posts, responding to enquiries by email or phone, preparing promotional communications, coordinatng volunteers, liaising with suppliers, assisting in the hosting of online events.

– Able to communicate with empathy and patience, adapting style to meet individual needs and ensuring everyone feels welcomed and valued
– Demonstrate a warm, approachable and respectful manner, building rapport easily with older people and people living with long-term health conditions
– Able to communicate clearly and respectfully with a wide range of people, including older people and colleagues
– Able to manage tasks independently with appropriate structure, guidance or tools as needed
Personal qualities
– Work or lived experience of working with or caring for older people, especially those living with long-term conditions or knowledge of the issues faced by older people
– Demonstrates clear and confident verbal and written communication with the ability to engage with new and existing partner organisations
– Enthusiasm for engaging with or learning about different sports and activities’
Essential skills
– Experience using Microsoft Office or equivalent tools, with assistive technology if applicable including Word and Teams (For email and online calls) and the ability to write short reports.
