Civic Participation

Nothing About Us, Without Us... the Access to Elected Office Fund, the Access to Politics Charter, and more.

One in five Scots identify as disabled, but only 1 MSP in the current Scottish Parliament defines themselves as disabled. A representative Scottish Parliament would have about 26 disabled MSPs.

Disabled people face many barriers to participation in politics, and running for elected office. We need to decrease these barriers so that disabled people are have greater representation in Parliament and local councils, ensuring our voices are heard and that our lived experience permeates the policies and structures that govern us.

Guidance on Accessing Politics

NEW – Our Guidance on Accessing Politics, a tool to support disabled people looking to get involved in politics, and for all those who wish to make politics more accessible for disabled people.
