Apply to host an intern
Apply to host an intern
Inclusion Scotland will support 30 internships across the public and third sectors in 2016-2017. We have been granted funding by the Scottish Government to pay the salaries and national insurance for these placements. This means that organisations can host an intern for the equivalent of 3 months full time (455 hours) with very minimal costs while paying them the Living Wage of £8.45 per hour. Roles may be created depending on employer requirements, so long as the work is sufficiently challenging for an intern to carry out.
These internships match skilled interns with organisations where they can really make a difference and be paid for doing so. This experience is invaluable to helping interns push their career in the right direction. The arrangement is mutually beneficial as the employer will benefit from an extra member of staff to carry out a piece of work. There are also opportunities to learn more about supporting disabled people in work.
We are currently seeking employers across Scotland who would be keen to host an intern.
Inclusion Scotland will support employers to develop an accessible role profile. We will also be available to both employers and applicants for advice during the recruitment phase. Once the intern has been recruited we will have a support meeting with them to discuss any support or adjustments they might need. Once they are in post we will meet with both the intern and employer together to ensure that support is in place, and if Access to Work is needed that the application is progressing.
We will be available to both parties throughout the placement, and will be encouraging peer networking between participants. We may also be able to signpost employers to further training in disability equality or awareness if desired. We will formally meet with the intern and employer at the end of the placement to evaluate the experience and also offer any advice for the future.
The Local Public Life Internship programme will place 10 interns in public bodies and local authorities. These internships are arranged by and supported solely by Inclusion Scotland. To find out more and register your interest please click here.
Disability Equality Internships is delivered in partnership with the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. It is open to third sector organisations. For eligibility and registration on this programme please visit the SCVO website by clicking here.
