Access to Elected Office Fund, the Access to Politics project, and more.
One in five Scots identify as being a disabled person, but as far as we are aware only 1 MSP in the current Scottish Parliament defines as being a disabled person. A representative Scottish Parliament would have about 26 disabled MSPs.
Disabled people face many barriers to becoming involved in politics and running for elected office. We need to decrease these barriers so that more disabled people can participate in Scottish politics and run for elected office. With greater representation reflecting societies make up we can ensure our voices are heard and that our lived experience permeates the policies and structures that govern us.
‘nothing about us, without us.’
The Access to Elected Office Fund provides financial support to disabled people seeking elected office and Access to Politics offers advice and support to disabled people, political parties and political groups.
